1. Browser storage and your media choice
The site uses local browser storage for functional purposes, including remembering your privacy choice and retaining the last successful YouTube feed data so the site can load quickly. The privacy choice is stored under a versioned localStorage key. Clearing browser site data resets this choice.
No Google Analytics or advertising tracker is configured in this version of the site.
2. YouTube media
Episode metadata can be shown without loading an embedded YouTube player. Embedded Shorts and live video players are blocked until you choose Allow YouTube Media. When allowed, the site creates players using youtube-nocookie.com. You can keep essential-only mode and still use ordinary links that open YouTube directly.
3. Firebase and Firestore
Firebase services are used for the public content management system and the private administrator sign-in. Cloud Firestore stores public website records such as articles, guest profiles, quotes, sponsors, site settings, and fallback episodes. Firebase Authentication protects the separate admin route.
4. Cloudflare cached YouTube feed
A Cloudflare Worker and Workers KV cache public YouTube metadata in the background so visitors do not need to wait for YouTube scraping or feed requests on every page load. The cached feed contains public media information such as video IDs, titles, thumbnails, dates, and live status.
5. Cloudinary media hosting
Public images uploaded through the administrator dashboard may be hosted by Cloudinary. Those images can include guest photos, article images, episode thumbnails, and sponsor logos. Existing public image URLs from other hosts may also remain in use.
6. Newsletter subscriptions and Brevo
When the newsletter signup appears on the site, you can dismiss it or subscribe. The site requires an explicit subscription checkbox before the request is accepted. Your email address is then sent through the site's Cloudflare Worker to Brevo and added to the configured newsletter list. The Brevo API credential is stored as a server-side Worker secret and is not exposed in the public website code.
Newsletter subscribers may receive new podcast episodes, announcements, behind-the-scenes content, upcoming guest previews, and other Politics with Pan updates. Newsletter campaigns should include Brevo's unsubscribe option so subscribers can leave the list from an email they receive.
7. Your choices
- Essential Only: the site remains usable, but YouTube embeds stay blocked.
- Allow YouTube Media: embedded Shorts and live players may load.
- Change your choice: use Cookie Settings in the public website footer at any time.
- Reset: clearing browser storage removes the saved preference and the site will ask again.
8. Third-party services
Firebase, Cloudflare, Cloudinary, Brevo, and YouTube operate under their own terms and privacy practices. Following an external link takes you to that provider's website and policies.
9. Updates to this notice
If the website later adds analytics, advertising, new processors, or materially different data uses, this notice and the consent controls should be updated before those features are enabled.
